LASIK has literally changed the lives of millions of people. Dr. Cutarelli goes to extraordinary lengths to offer his patients the finest, most up-to-date technology and techniques available anywhere. Approved by the FDA for safety and efficacy, the Advanced CustomVue™ is a custom-tailored LASIK laser vision correction procedure that is WaveScan-guided - designed to correct the unique imperfections of your eyes. Whether you're nearsighted, farsighted and/or astigmatic, the Advanced CustomVue™ laser vision correction procedure can help you achieve your Personal Best Vision™.
Wavefront-guided LASIK uses 3-dimensional measurements of how your eye processes images to guide the laser during your LASIK procedure. This enables Dr. Cutarelli to correct unique imperfections in each patient's vision that could never be measured before with the methods used for glasses and contact lenses. With the CustomVue procedure, Cutarelli Vision patients have the potential to achieve a new level of vision that we call "Personal Best Vision". Cutarelli Vision's innovative technology includes:
- WaveLight® Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q Laser
- iFS™ Advanced Femtosecond Laser
- AMO WaveScan WaveFront™
- STAR S4 IR™ Excimer Laser System
- ActiveTrak™ 3-D Active Eye Tracking
- Oculus Pentacam®
How Important is Individualization?
Just like a fingerprint, your vision is 100% unique. The first step in your LASIK procedure is gathering information about the shape or "landscape" of the cornea of your eye. Standard LASIK procedures offer only two measured values to correct your vision. Using this process, your eye prescription could provide only a minimum level of correction, regardless of your actual needs. However, with the advent of the WaveScan™ digital technology, Dr. Cutarelli can now identify, measure, and address imperfections in your eyes 25 times more precisely than with more common methods to provide the potential to experience better vision than is possible with glasses or contact lenses, often to 20/20, and even beyond!
The most vital step in LASIK laser vision correction is the creation of a WavePrint™ Map of the eye. This is the essential "fingerprint" of your vision. This WavePrint™ Map is then used during
the treatment phase to perform the LASIK vision correction.
The advanced, new level of precision provided by the WaveScan WaveFront™ System overcomes the limitations of previous technology, delivering unprecedented resolution to ensure the most effective individualized advanced LASIK laser treatment available today.
Dr. Cutarelli feels it is vital that you should have rock-solid peace of mind about your LASIK procedure at Cutarelli Vision — it's never been safer. He invites you to consider the following:
- All branches of the U.S. military and NASA recently allowed the treatment of LASIK for their servicemen and women, using this same advanced LASIK technology
- Based on the infection rates associated with wearing contact lenses, experts consider LASIK safer than wearing contacts1
- 31.4 million LASIK procedures have been performed worldwide to date, making it the most common elective vision procedure in the United States.2
- One year after the CustomVue procedure, 98% of mildly to moderately nearsighted
patients participating in the CustomVue Clinical Trials submitted
to the FDA reported these great results without glasses and contact lenses: 3
100% could pass a driving test
98% could see 20/20 or better
70% could see better than 20/20
General Information About LASIK
LASIK or "laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis" offers the ability to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism with a high degree of accuracy. While LASIK can dramatically improve the vision for most people, the improvement you experience depends on the severity and type of prescription you have.
LASIK is a quick and virtually painless procedure, performed by using a computerized excimer laser to reshape the cornea. To correct nearsightedness, the curvature of the cornea must be made flatter. To correct farsightedness, the curvature of the cornea must be made steeper. To correct astigmatism, the curvature must be altered in more than one direction. The LASIK surgical procedure results in the great majority of Cutarelli Vision patients experiencing improved vision and a reduced dependency on corrective eyewear. Immediately following LASIK, most of our patients will notice an immediate improvement, but the vision may still be considerably hazy. The day after the surgery most patients can see well enough to return to normal activities, including work. Results may vary so please discuss your daily activities and visual needs with Dr. Cutarelli prior to the procedure.
With a few exceptions, LASIK can treat the following conditions that require
the use of glasses and contact lenses for clear vision:
(Click on any topic for more information on a separate page.)
·
Myopia between -0.5 and -10 diopters
·
Hyperopia between +0.5 and +6.0 diopters
·
Astigmatism between 0.5 and 6.0 diopters
·
Presbyopia using LASIK Monovision
Due to the unique healing factor of each patient, and potential variability of individual surgical techniques, eye measurements, and equipment, no one can guarantee exact results. As an excellent and highly experienced surgeon, Dr. Cutarelli can largely control the last three variables. If, after your initial procedure, your vision without glasses is not satisfactory, then a procedure called "LASIK Enhancement" is an option for additional improvement in vision.
