LASIK Procedure After LASIK Enhancements Alternatives to LASIK |
What to do before your surgery day:
Schedule Your LASIK Procedure:
Once you've been established a good candidate for LASIK, our office will scedule your procedure. Dr. Cutarelli typically performs eye surgeries on Wednesday and Friday afternoons at our on-site surgery center.
Review and Sign Necessary Forms:
During your pre-LASIK eye examination, you will be given informed consent forms to review and sign prior to the day of surgery.
How to Feel:
It is completely natural to feel a bit nervous, anxious or excited prior to LASIK eye surgery. We will do everything possible to make this a relaxing and positive experience for you. We will provide a mild sedation medication, such as Xanax, Ativan or Valium.
What to Wear:
During the LASIK procedure, you will be wearing your own clothing, so choos clothing that is loose, very clean and comfortable. Avoid clothing that might possibly generate lint. The surgery room is kept at a cool temperature, so you may want to dress a bit warmly.
What NOT to Wear:
Certain hygiene products alter the effect of the laser on your eyes and, if any are present, surgery will be cancelled as a safety precaution. On the day of your surgery, you must refrain from using:
- Facial or eye makeup, including lipstick, foundations, powders, etc. Your face must be meticulously clean and free of all additives.
- Hair products that could leave residue on your face, such as conditioners, hair spray, mousse, etc.
- Creams or lotions on or near your face.
- Products that contain alcohol, such as skin fresheners.
- Products that contain fragrances, perfume, colognes, deodorant (not even if it's listed as fragrance free).
What to Eat or Drink
There are generally no restrictions on eating or taking medications before or on your surgery day, however, please advise us of any medications you are taking. Avoid alcohol at least 24 hours prior to and 48 hours after laser eye surgery, as alcohol dehydrates the tissues and may alter the effect of the laser on your eyes.
Medications:
Please inform us of all medications that you are currently taking. No medications are prescribed before your procedure.
Travel Arrangements:
If you are coming in from out of town, our office is delighted to provide you with some referrals for travel and accommodations. As LASIK is a surgical procedure, please allow for the possibility of an extended stay according to the healing recovery of your eyes.
Driving Arrangements:
Please arrange for someone to drive you home on the day of your LASIK eye surgery. Your eyes will be irritated and light sensitive. This usually dissipates within 24 hours after surgery, but you should not plan on driving long distances for approximately three days after your eye surgery.
Time Away From Work:
We will advise you as to how long according to your specific work and physical requirements. You may need to arrange to be away from work for a day or so following LASIK eye surgery, depending upon your occupation.
Child-Care:
Your LASIK procedure will take approximately two hours. Please arrange for any children to be left under someone else's care for the duration of your procedure and immediate recovery.
Next: Your LASIK procedure.
