The Ideal LASIK Candidate:
While 8 out of 10 people seeking freedom from glasses and contact lenses are good candidates for LASIK, there are factors that are vital to your being an ideal LASIK candidate:- Age of at least 18 years.
- Vision that has stabilized for at least a year.
- Cornea of sufficient thickness and appropriate curvature.

At least one of these common vision problems:
- Myopia (nearsightedness)
- hyperopia (farsightedness)
- Astigmatism (irregular shaped eye)
- Presybopis (age-related loss of accommodation)
- In overall good health
- Understands the benefits and risks of LASIK
Not a LASIK Candidate:
There are certain conditions that would exclude you from being an ideal candidate for LASIK eye surgery:
- If you have any of the following conditions: significant cataracts, amblyopia, strabismus, glaucoma, corneal diseases, corneal disorders (keratoconus or pellucid marginal degeneration), or other pre-existing eye diseases that affect or threaten vision.
- Collagen vascular diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, or significant problems with wound healing.
- Refusal to participate in the informed consent process.
- Not having realistic expectations.
